2 Tips for Workout-Proof Nail Art

 photo chipped_nails_zps00aa8cdb.jpg

A perfect manicure and pole dance don’t mix, it’s a tough lesson to learn when your obsession for nail art runs deep!  Sure you can drop some serious cash on gel nails or spend your evenings reapplying, but both can cause real damage to your nail health. Luckily where there is a will, there is a way and with the help of some talented friends I have some workout proof nail art to share.

Modern Arrow

What is awesome about the Modern Arrow design is you can apply the concept of keeping your design close to the nail base to create infinite amount of designs, all without ending up with chipped polish at the end of the day. I created the Modern Arrow design based on the traditional moon shape of the 40s and 50s only with an updated twist.

Start with completely polish free nails. Next using scotch or painters tape place your first piece of tape from the bottom corner crossing to the top opposite corner, place the second piece of tape from the opposite bottom corner crossing over the first piece. You should have created a triangle. Now take your polish of choice and paint two coats. Making sure to let your polish almost completely dry, slowly remove the tape. Finish off with a q-tip dipped in nail polish remover and clean up any messy edges.

Dripping in Gold

Sometimes I can’t help myself and I just have to have rich dark plum or red nails, but the pole never fails to ruin my lux mani. This clever and cute trick to fix chipped nails was given to me by make-up artist and fellow poler, Kelly Thorpe, and allows you to have the best of both worlds!

First, paint the chipped tips of your nails. You kinda want to glob it on a little more than usual. Second, add 1-2 drops of nail polish in the middle of your nail, keep them uneven for a more natural drip look, that you will then drag up to your painted tips. Finally add a drop or two towards the base of your nail for extra drippy goodness.

Sexy Superfoods For An Amazing Date Night

When I think about sexy foods, my mind goes straight to the land of indulgence. Chocolate covered strawberries, whipped cream, a slow drizzle of honey … you know what I’m talking about. It’s all about rich, luxurious flavors, but it doesn’t have to be unhealthy. Many aphrodisiacs are also super foods, meaning they are nutrient-rich and considered beneficial for your health and well-being.

While few aphrodisiacs have scientifically proven effects, I think the mental effect is just as important. Put together this meal for your next date night in with your partner, open up a good bottle of red wine, casually mention that the meal is filled with aphrodisiacs, and let nature take care of the rest.

Honey & Walnut Crusted Salmon with Salad

Walnut & Honey Crusted Salmon

For Salmon:

  • 1/2 cup raw unsalted walnuts
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon-style mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 salmon fillets with skin on, 3/4 to 1 inch thick

For Salad:

  • Leafy greens
  • Peppers
  • 1 avocado
  • 1 small handful of pine nuts

Finely chop the walnuts, by hand or in food processor, and spread them on a plate. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Grease a baking dish that is big enough for the salmon fillets to not touch. Whisk honey, mustard, salt, and pepper in a small bowl, then brush the fillets with the mixture. (Don’t be afraid of adding too much!) Press each fillet into the walnuts to coat the top and sides, then place in baking dish with the skin side down. Bake for about 15 minutes, or until the salmon easily flakes apart with a fork. Move the salmon up in the oven and place under broiler for a minute or two to make the walnuts crispy; but keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn’t burn.

While the salmon is baking, mix up a quick salad of leafy greens, avocado slices, and pine nuts, and top with your choice of salad dressing. (Onions might not be the best idea before a sexy evening, but my husband will not eat salad without it, so keeping him happy was worth the bad breath;)

Walnuts are natural anti-depressants, contain zinc which regulates the level of testosterone in the blood, and are full of essential fatty acids which helps simulate good heart health, which again translates to blood flow to the organs. Walnuts were even used as a fertility drug in ancient Rome! Salmon is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, which promote glandular development and lead to increased response to arousal, and honey increases the level of nitric oxide, the chemical released in the blood during arousal.

Raw Strawberry Chocolates with Maca

Raw Strawberry Chocolates with Maca

  • 3 large strawberries, hulled
  • 65g raw cacao butter (in solid form)
  • 3-4 tbsp cacao powder
  • 4 tsp maca powder
  • pinch of sea salt

Set the oven to its lowest setting. Cut the strawberries into thin slices and place on a baking sheet lined with baking paper. Dehydrate in the oven for two hours. When completed, puree the strawberries. Use a grater to shave cacao butter into a stainless steel bowl that will fit over the top of a saucepan. Boil a little water in the saucepan and remove from heat, then place the bowl with cacao butter over the top and let melt, stirring gently a few times.

Add in strawberry puree, sift in the cacao and maca powders, and add sea salt, then stir to combine. Pour the chocolate into moulds and allow to set at room temperature for around 2 hours, or in the fridge for 30 minutes. Remove the chocolates from the moulds and store in an air-tight container in the pantry or fridge.

Maca is said to boost libido for both men and women, and increases immunity, energy, vitality, and fertility, while cacao stimulates the reproductive organ of women. It also supplies phenylethylamine, a chemical compound that releases feel-good hormones in your body!

If you try one or both of the recipes let me know how it goes, and if you have other suggestions for aphrodisiac super foods I would to hear them!

5 Ways to Style Your Bodybinds for Everyday Wear

 photo BB_4_zps82ba9500.jpg

Waiting for my Bodybinds was like waiting for Christmas morning. The excitement and anticipation as I counted down the days, diligently checking the mailbox, and hoping beyond hope they might arrive early. When the magical moment did arrive I ran from the mailbox, swept clear the table, and got to work. Like a child under the Christmas tree I tore open the package with as much reverence for the beautiful pieces inside as I could manage while still not slowing my attainment of these new goodies. Once released from their plastic prison I laid out the pieces… gorgeous … and began to fantasize of who I could be in these pretty things.

I love clothing. I love all that clothing allows you to be. What we put on our bodies in is so much more than just a covering to keep the elements out – its self-expression, creativity, a statement, a transformation. It can shout, “World, this is who I am!” or whisper “Don’t you want to know more?” A woman in a full skirt and heels walks into a room very differently than one in doc martins and a leather jacket. And while a flowy maxi dress can transform you into a Grecian goddess, a perfectly tailored suit will demand others to pay attention. You decide how you present yourself and what sides of yourself you want to share. You decide who you want to be and clothing communicates it. That is a pretty powerful thing, but unfortunately, easily forgotten.

The arrival of my Bodybinds reminded me of the joy of dress up. They practically beg you to experiment with them and demand to be worn as often as possible. They have the ability to  transform even the most basic outfit into something fresh and new. So you better believe once I got my Bodybinds, I had one massive session of dress-up!

Here are my favorite ways to incorporate Bodybinds into your everyday wear:

1. Add interest to a basic look

We all have our tried and true essentials in our closets, but why not use Bodybinds to take your boring basics to the next level and create a truly unique look? I layered the Betty Skirt over a staple black pencil skirt, but you can also add the Diamond Monokini over a tank and under jeans or experiment with the Fleur Dress over a solid bodycon dress for a one-of-a-kind look!

2. Layer your Bodybinds over soft, flowy layers

Nothing accentuates soft, feminine curves like hard, straight lines shown in juxtaposition. Use pieces like Bodybinds’ Cage Top or Rebecca Bondage Top over a maxi dress or flowy top to nip in at the waist while allowing the layers of fabric to cascade over your curves.

3. Add your Bodybinds to a traditionally masculine outfit

Bodybinds has the ability to be both feminine and masculine, strong and soft, and it is one of my favorite aspects to play with when putting together an outfit. Try going for a pop of femininity with a harder, masculine outfit by giving the world a peek of your lingerie-style Bodybinds. Try layering items like the Kitty Bra under a flannel or the Betty Skirt over jeans to give viewers an unexpected tease of naughtiness.

4. Give retro items an edgier, modern flare

I am partial to 40′s and 50′s styling and designs, but after awhile all those girlish full skirts and sweet pastel details can leave a girl in desperate need of some modern edge. Make Bettie Page proud by layering Bodybinds’ bondage inspired pieces, like the Michelle Bikini Top or Emily Bra, over a fitted wiggle dress or peter pan collar button-up. Try pulling out your vintage store finds from all eras and mix and match with Bodybinds for an updated look!

5. Use Bodybinds to bring out accent details

I am thoroughly obsessed with small, unique details in clothing and love to call the viewers attention to them. Bodybinds Classics Collection comes in a plethora of colors and their BLACK Collection all feature a reverse side in multiple colors which can be used to draw your eye to areas of interest. I used the red side of the Cage Top to focus on the exposed red zipper. The bold graphic design of Bodybinds’ stark lines on the body can also frame gorgeous body art and jewelry.

So what amazing, one-of-a-kind looks will you create with your Bodybinds? Be sure to share your results with us!
